Barrett Steel’s Strips & Alloys business has developed and produced new printing technology that revolutionises the spiral wound gasket industry by giving it a level of traceability never seen before.

Barrett Steel's going green initiative includes reducing electricity and water use as well as tracking and reducing vehicle fuel consumption.

Barrett Steel is sharpening up its ‘green’ credentials by embarking on a campaign to reduce its carbon footprint across all company sites. As part of the campaign the group is working towards the environmental standard ISO 14000 and as a result has already implemented a number of initiatives to reduce electricity, water and fuel consumption, optimise raw material use and become more energy efficient in production processes. Barrett Steel has appointed 20 year old Emily Mitchell to the position of marketing assistant on a one year industry placement from Leeds Metropolitan University. Originally from Thornton in Bradford, Emily has already completed the first two years of a BA Honours degree in Marketing and Advertising Management, and will return to the University to complete her third and final year of study in September 2012. Movetech UK turned up at the Le Mans Motorsport Festival in Bolton at the request of the event’s main sponsors, the University of Bolton, to help attract attention to a Keating Supercar by revolving it on an automotive turntable in the main show arena in front of the Town Hall. Held during the Le Mans 24 Hour Race weekend, the Festival is one of the largest free motorsports shows in the UK and was initiated to celebrate the town twinning links Bolton and Le Mans have enjoyed since 1973. Barrett Steel invests further in flatbed laser cutting systems

Barrett Steel’s investment in new flatbed laser cutting equipment leads to higher productivity, speedier turn around and cost-savings for customers.

Responding to changing customer needs to combine steel stockholding and processing, Barrett Steel has made further investment in state of the art flatbed laser cutting equipment by installing a Bystronics Bystar 4025 at the Group’s Woodberry Chillcott facility in Bristol. The £500k total investment will allow the company to provide better cutting tolerances on mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium and yellow materials, while the large bed size will lead to time and cost savings for customers.
